Overview

SmartSign is a simple studio signage solution designed to run on a Raspberry Pi 3 mini computer board. SmartSign is a screen based signage system which allows you to build the display you need by dragging tile elements onto a grid. Titles can display time, date, messages, hardware inputs, images and more.
Applications include:
  • Studio Clock & Tally Display
  • Mic Live Warnings
  • On Air Control
  • Studio Switcher Control
  • Reception Displays
  • Door Entry Management
  • Because you design the layout, you can control the application!

Your Sign - Your Design

SmartSign is built around a grid of tiles. You define the grid you want then layout the tiles that you want SmartSign to display.

The tiles available in SmartSign include:
  • SmartText Tiles - Provides tiles that react and interact with the real world via the Raspberry Pi's built in hardware inputs and outputs. You can make Smart tiles react to a hardware event (like 'light up' when you turn the microphones on) or send a hardware output when a user clicks on a tile with the mouse or touchscreen (like triggering a door release or controlling a 'studio switcher'). SmartText tiles can change colour and text in response to hardware or user input.
  • Analogue Clock Tiles - Place a traditional analogue clock on screen complete with sweeping second hand!
  • Digital Clock Tile - Provides a NTP driven digital clock complete with circular second 'ticks'. N.B. Requires a network connection and time source.
  • Date/Time Tile - Just want to show the date and time as text, no problem.
  • Plain Text Tile - Add your own labels and notices.
  • Images Tile - Display a single image or a carousel of images from a folder.
  • Audio Monitor - Add multiple 'VU' displays with 'silence alerts to your SmartSign. Works with our free Audio Monitor software.
  • Now Playing - Display currently playing song information. Requires Myriad 5 Playout with OCP SE (Standard edition).
  • RSS Feeds - Display the latest news headlines from your favourite provider via standard RSS feeds. RSS can be displayed as scrolling text or 'type writer' style.
  • Twitter Followers - Display a live count of of your followers on Twitter, directly on your SmartSign.

SmartSign Working With Broadcast Radio Hardware Service

SmartSign Lite also works with the Broadcast Radio Hardware Service to allow you to virtualise hardware triggers using your network. The Broadcast Radio Hardware Service (BRHS) works with all fifth generation Broadcast Radio software to allow you to use your existing local or wide area network to share hardware or IP events between software. This means you can have a single hardware I/O device servicing software all across your radio station or group.

For example, you can have a single hardware input that triggers SmartDisplay tiles on multiple SmartSigns in your station using your existing network infrastructure, and because SmartSign can also share hardware inputs via the BRHS, it means that you could put a SmartSign in your studio that also triggers a second SmartSign outside of your studio door and the only connection the second SmartSign will need is a network connection - wired or even wireless!
